Apollo 1 was one of the most disastrous missions in American history, and very possibly the country’s space program as well. With a launch date of February 21, 1967, Apollo 1 was chosen as the first mission to land a man on the moon. The expedition, on the other hand, never got off the ground.

Unfortunately, a tragedy happened during a launch rehearsal, killing all three members of the crew. The fire killed Pilot Gus Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White, and Pilot Roger B. Chaffee, as well as destroyed the command module. The disaster forced a 20-month hiatus in the space program while the threats posed by the command module were addressed.
