Vet’s Gaze
When I got home, I poured a cup of tea and sank into my chair, the vet’s expression replaying in my mind. His serious gaze lingered, heavy with an unspoken weight, as if there was more he wasn’t telling me. The unanswered questions and those tense silences gnawed at me, refusing to be ignored. Even the soothing warmth of the tea did little to calm my unease as I tried to unravel the mystery surrounding this peculiar puppy.

Linda, my next-door neighbor, stopped by for a visit. “How’s Daisy and the pups?” she asked brightly, her smile unwavering—until her gaze landed on the unusual “puppy.” Her eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Well, that one’s… different,” she remarked, kneeling down for a closer look, her curiosity piqued by its strikingly odd markings. Her reaction only deepened the unease I’d been feeling, but there was some small comfort in having someone else notice what had become my growing obsession.
